Plainville High School students Zoe Weimer and Phillippe Brochu have been named recipients of the first semester “Student Rocks Award” recognizing their outstanding contributions to Plainville High School.
The Student Rocks Award was established by three teachers in 2010 as a way to honor those students who “do the right thing” every day without looking for acknowledgement. Once a semester, teachers nominate and then vote for students they believe are worthy of this award. The students are honored, along with their family members and guests, at a staff meeting where they are awarded a book and presented with the Student Rocks plaque where their names are engraved. This plaque is displayed in the school’s awards showcase. It reads: “awarded to students who assume responsibility for their positive contributions to the school and community.” Faculty and staff comments submitted for the winning nominations are also shared during the awards presentation.
Weimer, a senior, was nominated by high school faculty member Todd Helming with supporting comments shared by several faculty members.
“Zoe's presence lights up a room; she is positive, friendly, diligent, and kind. She works hard and clearly cares about everything that she is involved in. She participates often in class, and has a great sense of humor. I know she will do great things both here at PHS and in all her future endeavors,” said faculty member Sandi Dowsett.
Brochu, a junior, was nominated by high school faculty member Jeff Smedick, with supporting comments shared by several faculty members.
“Phillippe Brochu is the exemplar of a student rocks winner, kind, courteous and helpful. He truly cares about his education, his school and his community,” noted faculty member TJ Riccardo.
Zoe and Phillippe were honored on December 13th during a high school faculty meeting.
"I love celebrating all the good in our building, and these two students are the perfect examples of the Plainville High School Student Rocks Award. Zoe and Phil make our building a better place and deserve this recognition. I was so excited to award them this week!” noted PHS faculty member and Student Rocks Program Coordinator, Mikayla Wells.
“The Student Rocks Award presentation is the highlight of our faculty meetings two times each year at PHS. Both Zoe Weimer and Phillippe Brochu are role model students within our school community. They display kindness, respect and compassion towards others in all that they do. We are lucky to have them as Blue Devils,” said Plainville High School Principal, Jennifer DeLorenzo.
“Listening to the reasons why Zoe and Phil received this award was inspiring and hope inducing,” said Superintendent of Schools, Brian Reas.
