Plainville Community Schools to Host Superintendent’s Update and Informational Showcase
Plainville Community Schools will host a “Superintendent’s Update and Informational Showcase” on Thursday, April 20, 2023. The program will be held from 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM at Plainville High School, 47 Robert Holcomb Way.
The program will begin in the school’s auditorium with opening remarks by Superintendent Steven LePage, including a brief overview of the proposed 2023-24 school district budget and a special recognition for Plainville Board of Education member Foster White, who has been named recipient of the Connecticut Association of Schools Distinguished Friend of Education Award. This will be followed by an “open house” style showcase in the high school’s cafeterias. The showcase event will feature musical performances, demonstrations, information, and updates for parents and community members on a variety of school district related topics including STEAM activities and demos, Robotics, a Diversity Celebration, Unified Sports, Learning Adventure Days, Career Pathways, and much more.
This year, the showcase event will also feature a “mental health resource boulevard” in the corridor outside of the school’s cafeterias, and will include representatives and information from a wide variety of local mental health support organizations. Additionally, the Connecticut Clearinghouse’s “Change the Script” Resource Van will be on site at the high school to distribute mental health resource and substance use prevention information and resources to parents, and the “Hidden in Plain Site” organization will host an interactive “mock student bedroom” space for parents to tour and learn more about youth substance abuse.
Light refreshments will be served and the event is open to the public.
“This annual district showcase provides our district families an opportunity to see and experience many examples of what makes our school district a true model, in so many ways. This year will be even more special and meaningful with an opportunity to honor a legendary volunteer member of our community, and also an opportunity to access many critical resources related to mental health services and supports. I think everyone will find our showcase to be informative, impressive and inspiring,” said Superintendent of Schools, Steven LePage.
