Each student enrolled in grades three and above shall take a statewide examination. The examinations provided by and administered under the supervision of the State Board of Education, measure students' skills in reading, writing, mathematics and science.
The school district may not require achievement of a satisfactory score on the statewide proficiency examination or any subsequent retest on a component of such examinations as the sole criterion of promotion or graduation.
For each student who fails to meet or exceed the standard level of achievement established by the state, the school shall develop and implement a plan for improving that student's performance.
All students shall participate in state mandated testing. Students with limited English proficiency and students who receive special education may be exempt from the provisions of the testing in accordance with State and Federal law.
