In June the Plainville Board of Education met to conduct the annual evaluation of Superintendent of Schools, Steven LePage. During his first year as Superintendent, Mr. Lepage met with exceptional challenges. His steady leadership provided the Plainville community with the stability and confidence to endure the unprecedented closure of schools as well as several other events that were a struggle for our families and students.

Board Certified Behavior Analyst / Licensed Behavior Analyst (BCBA/LBA) and Instructional Leader for PreK - 5 Special Education, Christina Kiley, has been named recipient of the Thomas DiCorleto Memorial Outstanding Service Award, from the Farmington Valley Special Education Directors Association.

Plainville Community Schools has named Plainville Community Schools Band Director Dominic Talotta as the 2020-2021 Teacher of the Year. Talotta was nominated by district colleague Michael Boncimino.

Students in Joan Corey's second grade class at Linden Street School recently learned about sunflowers during a Google Class Meeting.

In the months of November and early December, Ashley Seymour’s fourth grade class at Linden Street School decided to create Christmas/holiday and thank you cards for a classmate’s parent and fellow troop members who serve overseas.

MSP Students Pay It Forward with the “You Rock” Initiative Students and staff at the Middle School of Plainville MSP recently spread cheer and a positive “You Rock” message to others.

Students in Joan Corey’s second grade class at Linden Street School recently completed several Directed Drawing lessons during Google Classroom meetings as part of distance learning in Plainville.

With chalk in hand, Middle School of Plainville students took to the streets! The MSP Art club recently sponsored the “Chalk Your Walk” contest for Middle school students and their families.

The Middle School of Plainville’s First Responders Fan Club, led by advisor and faculty member Christina Corvello, recently sponsored several support projects for first responders.

The Plainville Family Resource Network (PFRN) is continuing the SOARing (Social Opportunities for Achieving Readiness) Eagles class for 3 year olds, Thursday mornings at 10:30am via Google meets.

The Plainville Family Resource Network (PFRN) “drive by pick-up” (and a few walkers) at Linden Street School on May 5th was a success with 26 families and 38 children participating.

While end of year activities and plans for the Plainville High School Class of 2020 graduation on June 12th are underway, a unique program has been developed by school and district administration, together with the high school’s Parent Advisory Council, as a tribute to the graduating senior class. The “Adopt a Senior 2020” initiative was created as a way to enhance this year’s non-traditional senior year events and graduation day festivities, in light of the current pandemic and restrictions on public gatherings.

Plainville Community Schools still has openings for the district’s preschool program for the Fall, 2020.

Plainville Community Schools’ elementary students, kindergarten through fifth grade, are participating in Library Choice Boards each week as a part of distance learning.

Trumpf, Inc. recently designed and produced custom face shields. The company donated a number of face shields for the Plainville Community Schools Food Service and Facilities Department staff.

As Plainville Community Schools continue with remote teaching and learning in place since March 16th, a new staff recognition program has been created to highlight the exceptional efforts of staff members across the school district.

In the spirit of Frank T. Wheeler Elementary School's Kindness Campaign, School Recess Monitor Staci Monzillo is spreading kindness during school vacation week by dropping beautifully decorated “kindness rocks” randomly throughout five neighborhoods in Plainville.

Plainville Domino's Pizza owner Shovon Issa recently donated pizzas to every Plainville Community School' Facilities Department and Food Service Department employee to support them and their hard work in the school district during the district's shutdown.

On March 13th, retired NASA Astronaut Corps member Duane “Digger” Carey, together with educators from the Space Foundation and representatives from the Petit Family Foundation, visited the Middle School of Plainville to share the “Space in the Community” program.

On March 6, 2020 the University of Connecticut's premier acapella group "Conn Men" visited the Middle School of Plainville to present a concert to the student body.

Children who will be five (5) years old on or before January 1, 2021 are eligible for kindergarten (full day program) in September, 2020.

Students, staff and visitors celebrated Read Across America during the first week of March.

On February 27th members of the Central Connecticut State University’s Teacher Leader Fellowship Program, under the direction of Dr. Betty Sternberg, gathered at Plainville High School for a meeting and several break out sessions.

The Plainville Community Schools Preschool Program will begin accepting registrations on Monday, March 16, 2020.

The Plainville Community Schools 4th Annual Unified Basketball Team versus Administrators, Board Of Education Members, Faculty, and Parents game was held on February 20th at Plainville High School.

Middle School of Plainville faculty member and robotics coach, Camille Westfall, is the recipient of a $5,000 grant to host the VEX IQ robotics Connecticut State Championship event at the Middle School of Plainville for the next three years.

Plainville High School once again hosted the "Go Baby Go" event December 6th & 7th, during which toy ride-on cars for children with special needs were modified, refurbished, and presented to local families.

Fourteen Plainville students received the Connecticut Association of Public School Superintendents’ (CAPSS) Superintendent / Student Recognition Award and Certificate of Excellence at the 32nd annual Superintendent’s Award Presentation held on November 1st, during a luncheon at J. Timothy’s Restaurant.

Plainville Board of Education member Foster White has earned the CABE (Connecticut Association of Boards of Education) “Certified Board of Education Member” designation, according to Superintendent of Schools, Steven LePage.

The Pulsera Project is a nonprofit organization that connects artists from Nicaragua and Guatemala with students throughout the United States, through the sale of colorful, hand woven bracelets, or "pulseras" in Spanish.

Students at Plainville High School have an additional elective course available this year, as an “American Sign Language 1” class has been added to the high school’s course selection options. Taught by Plainville resident and educator Rachel Posner, the course has been popular with high school students thus far.

The field of animal therapy continues to expand and gain popularity as a healing modality, and Plainville High School is one of many schools, country-wide, that integrates a therapy dog within the high school building. In May, Plainville High School said goodbye to Duke, the school’s second therapy dog, who accompanied Physical Education and Health Teacher, Sarah Centore, in several classes over the past three years.

David Levenduski, currently Supervisor of Instruction and Learning for the Meriden, Connecticut school system, has been named Assistant Superintendent for Plainville Community Schools. Levenduski will replace Steven LePage, who was recently named Superintendent of the Plainville school district.

School busses in Plainville this fall will feature an enhanced safety measure, according to Superintendent of Schools, Steven LePage. The DATTCO busses servicing Plainville schools will now feature the Student Guardian automated stop arm enforcement system.

Plainville Community Schools announced today its policy for determining eligibility of children who may receive free or reduced-price meals served under the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program.

Plainville students in the RAMP (Reading and Math Power) Program held at Linden Street School this July, recently enjoyed a visit from new Superintendent of Schools, Steven LePage. Approximately 45 students in kindergarten through grade 3 are participating in the summer learning program.

Thanks to a grant from the Jamie Garfield ’00 Grant Program through the Kingswood Oxford School, and the work of Kingswood Oxford student Ella Schwartz, a no-cost Robotics and Engineering Camp was offered to 20 elementary age Plainville students in June. The day camp, which ran from June 24-28 at the Middle School of Plainville provided the venue and opportunity for participants to work on engineering challenges and build robots to learn about communication and cooperation.

Former Superintendent of Schools Dr. Maureen Brummett, Assistant Town Manager Shirley Osle, and Plainville Community Food Pantry Executive Director Susie Woerz, together with the United Way of West Central Connecticut and the Plainville Rotary Club, have organized a back to school "Backpack Program" for Plainville Community School District students in need, for the 2019-20 school year.
