Masse was nominated by Facilities Department Office Professional, Sandy Bouchard. “I saw a notification about the contest on the Facility Cleaning Decisions newsletter and wanted to send a submission. It certainly wasn’t easy to choose just one custodian that goes above and beyond since we have so many that do. Greg stood out, in my mind, by creating the “Tidy Tigers Award.” Getting students involved in keeping things tidy teaches responsibility and gives them something to be proud of. It also gives the custodians more time to concentrate on areas that need more of their attention,” said Bouchard.
According to the contest website, the Champions of Clean Contest encourages facilities managers and professionals to nominate themselves or someone they know who goes above and beyond to create clean and healthy environments that building staff and patrons can trust.
Earlier this year, Masse, a second shift custodian at Toffolon School, designed and launched the “Tidy Tigers Award” program, where two classrooms a week are selected by Masse and fellow custodian Miguel Velazquez for exceptional effort by students to keep the rooms tidy. Winners get to keep a “Tidy Tiger” welcome mat outside their classroom door as an award for their efforts. Bouchard put together the Champions of Clean nomination, including information about The Tidy Tigers program that Masse created. At the end of March, she received notification that Masse had been selected as one of two winners of the nationwide contest. As a result, Masse will receive an all-expense paid trip to one of several destinations of his choice.
“This was a wonderful surprise, never thought I would win, but I am honored that I was nominated,” said Masse.
“We are fortunate to have an employee like Greg who thinks outside the box and I couldn’t be happier for him to receive this acknowledgement. He has established himself as a man of integrity, who is motivated and genuinely happy in his role as a custodian at Toffolon School. He is quite the jokester and manages to put smiles on peoples’ faces every day. We appreciate his dedication to the staff and students while accomplishing his responsibilities with a positive outlook daily. He has put Plainville schools on the map. Thank you Mr. Masse for your commitment to Plainville Community Schools, job well done,” said Facilities Custodial Manager, Scott Martin.
