Middle School of Plainville student Dale Neyra has been selected to receive the United Way of West Central Connecticut’s “Youth Live United Award” for Plainville, according to United Way’s President, Donna Osuch.
Each year during the United Way of West Central Connecticut’s Community Builders’ Reception, companies and individuals who give back to the community through the United Way are honored. According to Osuch, the Youth Live United Award recognizes middle and high school students with a connection to United Way who have given back to their community through volunteerism, and truly Live United. One youth from each of the United Way of West Central Connecticut communities (Bristol, Burlington, Plainville and Plymouth) was selected to win their community’s award.
Neyra was nominated by Plainville Kids in the Middle Coordinator, Amy Kievit. In her nomination, she noted that even though this is the first year, Neyra has “jumped in with both feet.” He has demonstrated the strongest commitment and passion to the Kids in the Middle program. From leadership opportunities to caroling at nursing homes, Neyra has truly embraced all of the activities and has one of the highest participation levels out of the 80 Plainville students involved with KIM.
“Sometimes the activities conducted by our Kids in the Middle Program can take students out of their comfort zone when interacting with others in the community, but there is no program he won’t try. His infectious energy and passion to give back inspires others to do the same,” stated Kievit.“We are very proud of Dale's volunteer efforts in our KIM program. Putting in the most hours in his first year as a member is commendable,” said Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Maureen Brummett.
Neyra will be honored at the United Way of West Central Connecticut’s Community Builders’ reception on April 11th at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Bristol, Connecticut. To purchase tickets for the Community Builders’ reception, contact the United Way at (860) 582-9559.
