Tunxis Acceptance Day at PHS a Huge Success

A number of Plainville High School students recently formalized their post-graduation plans as part of the school’s annual “Tunxis Acceptance Day” event hosted by the Plainville High School Counseling Department on February 17th.

According to Plainville High School Counselor and Tunxis Acceptance Day  Coordinator, Kacey Stewart, 32 PHS seniors participated in the event. Each student met individually with a Tunxis Community College Admissions Representative as well as a Financial Aid Representative on site  at the high school. The college representatives accepted and processed student applications, answered questions and collected supplemental materials so that the  students will be  ready to attend Tunxis upon graduation. “Getting accepted to college on the spot is very exciting for our seniors. This event is also such a great opportunity for our students to get direct assistance from Tunxis representatives. I love that Tunxis Acceptance Day allows us to remove barriers and help students on the next part of their journey,” said Stewart.

Plainville High School senior Nick Kafka,  was one of the students who participated in the Tunxis Acceptance Day Event. “I'm thankful for the opportunity to participate in Tunixs Acceptance Day. The process was easy and I look forward to going to Tunixs this fall.”

“This program has really grown in the past few years for our Seniors at PHS. A huge amount of credit should be given to our School Counseling Department for building and growing this day over the years. Additionally, it highlights just one part of the great partnership we have formed with Tunxis Community College at Plainville High School,” noted Plainville High School Principal, Carl Johnson.

“This event provides a terrific opportunity for many Plainville seniors in their college pursuits. We appreciate our partnership with Tunxis and Acceptance Day is a valuable option for our soon to be Plainville graduates,” added Superintendent of Schools, Steven LePage.
