Fourth and fifth grade students from all three Plainville elementary schools attended the Connecticut Association of Schools (CAS) Elementary Leadership Conference at Asnuntuk Community College College in Enfield on January 6th. Students had the unique opportunity to develop 21st century leadership skills through various activities and working with students from other school districts. The students were engaged in hands-on activities that focused on creative problem solving, communication, decision making, and productive thinking. They attended three sessions that were randomly selected in advance. The sessions covered topics such as, how to be an ally, improving public speaking, interactive student leadership lessons, kindness and equity, safe screen time, spoken word, interactive theatre, and productive and respectful self. Students gained valuable leadership skills to take back and incorporate into their schools and daily lives.
