Singer Songwriter Visits Linden

Writing a song can seem daunting for anyone, especially elementary school students. Mrs. Bajek’s 3rd-grade students at Linden Street School recently learned that writing a song is easier than you think.  Linden parent, Bonnie McGee, led students in the creative process of songwriting.  After brainstorming ideas, the students came up with several verses about how they can like themselves, even when they are having a hard day. McGee accompanied the students on guitar as they sang their verse, “I’m gonna like me even when I rage on my game; I got frustrated and broke my game; Next time I’ll take a deep breath and walk away; I’m gonna like me anyway.”

McGee has written music under the name Bonnie Lee Panda for two decades. She has performed and recorded in Nashville and now resides in Plainville. In addition to the 3rd-grade songwriting workshop, McGee led Mrs. Smith-Johnson’s kindergarten class in musical exploration. While McGee played guitar and sang a few of her original songs, the students danced and grooved to the music.
