PHS Announces First Questbridge Scholar

Plainville High School senior, Ayo Ayodele, has been named a QuestBridge National College Match Scholar, matching  with Boston College for a full, four-year scholarship including tuition, room, board and fees, according to Principal, Jennifer DeLorenzo. Ayodele is the first Plainville High School student to become a QuestBridge Scholar.

QuestBridge is a significantly competitive national program that connects high-achieving students from historically underrepresented socio-economic backgrounds with top colleges and universities. Each year, more than 25,000 students apply to the QuestBridge program, approximately 6,000 are selected as finalists, and a very small number ultimately match with a partner college for the full scholarship award.

The comprehensive and rigorous  process begins with students applying through QuestBridge, highlighting their academic achievements and financial background. QuestBridge then reviews applications and selects the top applicants as finalists. The student finalists rank up to 15 partner colleges in order of preference and apply Early Decision to their ranked schools. If they match with one, they are admitted with a full scholarship.

“Matching with Boston College makes this even more special,” explained Plainville High School Counselor, Kacey Stewart. “BC is a highly selective institution with the most recent acceptance rate at 15%, and a total cost of attendance of more than $85,000 per year. Receiving a guaranteed full-ride scholarship through QuestBridge is a huge achievement and speaks volumes about Ayo’s hard work and talent!”

“We are so excited for this opportunity to be awarded to Ayo. She exemplifies what hard work and commitment to excellence can lead to. We are thankful that she has been part of our PHS community and we know she will be transitioning on to great success at Boston College,” said Plainville High School Principal, Jennifer DeLorenzo.

"Ayo and her success are an inspiration to students and educators alike here in Plainville," noted Superintendent of Schools, Brian Reas.

“Becoming a QuestBridge Scholar represents years of academic perseverance and reflects the support of my family, teachers, and friends. I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity and I look forward to growth at Boston College!” said Ayodele.
