Go Baby Go At PHS!

Plainville Community Schools and Central Connecticut State University once again partnered to host the "Go Baby Go" event at Plainville High School on May 1st, during which toy ride-on cars for children with special needs were modified, refurbished, and presented to local families. The Go Baby Go program was originally founded by the University of Delaware and a local chapter was founded at Central Connecticut State University (CCSU) in 2015. The full day workshop hosted at Plainville High School featured Plainville High School Technology Education students, working together with students from the Technology Education Department at CCSU, under the direction of the Technology Education faculty members, Dr. Michele Dischino, Central Connecticut State University, and Mark Chase and David Gaignard, Plainville High School, as well as Plainville Community Schools Physical Therapist, Sheryl Hart, Dr. Melissa Olson, Occupational Therapist and Assistive Technology Specialist with Quinnipiac University and the Consolidated School District of New Britain, Dr. Kelly Conte, Physical Therapist and Associated Faculty at the University of Connecticut, and Plainville Community Schools Volunteer Coordinator, Sue Bradley, to adapt the toy cars. The children were fitted for the cars during the second portion of the event, and were able to "test drive" their new vehicles that afternoon. Three children received modified cars this year. The Go Baby Go event was made possible through donations, including grants from the Petit Family Foundation and the Community Foundation of Greater New Britain, to support the Go Baby Go project, coordinated by Dr. Dischino.
