Policy In order to maximize instruction time on task and to ensure that students are afforded the opportunity to work and learn in an atmosphere free from distraction and interruption, intercom announcements and other communications to the classroom should be made at the beginning of the school day (i.e. during homeroom). Otherwise, such communications should be made only where there is an emergency or where there is some other compelling reason, such as the early closing of school or the sudden cancellation of an after-school activity involving a significant number of students. Furthermore, these announcements should only be made when no other means exist to notify teachers and/or students. Routine communications, such as the announcement of detention, meetings or student activities or calling students to the office to verify attendance should not be made to the classrooms during instructional time.
