The 8th Grade has 2 teams:

GRADE 8 TRANSITION EVENTS:
Various events take place throughout the school year to assist the 8th grade students with their transition to high school.  Note:  Event dates and locations are subject to change.

Plainville High School:
PHS Program of Studies Presentation:  
Students will be provided information regarding Plainville High School during an assembly facilitated by the Plainville High School Administrators & School Counselors.
PHS Tour:  Students will tour Plainville High School's academic and elective areas.
PHS Open House:  Parents/guardians and students attend an evening of information at PHS.
PHS Registration with HS Counselor:  Students meet with their High School Counselor to finalize courses for high school.



E.C. Goodwin Technical High School Presentation: 
EC Goodwin will share information to interested MSP students regarding their program and admissions process

Southington Agricultural Science Program Presentation: 
Southington Ag Sci will share information to interested MSP students regarding their program and admissions process

Students who are planning to apply to a private, magnet, or technical high school are advised to pay special attention to application requirements and deadlines. 


COUNSELING WORKSHOPS:
At various times throughout the school year, the School Counselors deliver Counseling Workshops in the classroom to help students with academic, personal/social, and career development. The workshops for the 8th Grade are:

Career Key - Students will complete the Career Key questionnaire using Naviance. They will discover which Holland personality type they are most like. Students will gain some new ideas and insight into career options which align with their personality type.
Hollands career theory
PHS Q & A - Students will become familiar with key high school terminology and gain familiarity with the PHS Program of Studies.


GROUP COUNSELING:
Various groups will be offered to students to participate in throughout the year. The groups are held for a variety of reasons such as: improving social skills, improving self-esteem, stress management skills, academic success skills, etc.

INDIVIDUAL PLANNING:
Counselor check-ins take place throughout the school year with each 8th grade student. These interviews are conducted in order to assist each student with establishing future goals and to identify activities, interests, strengths/weaknesses and likes/dislikes.

ABOUT MRS. RODRIGUEZ:
Mrs. Rodriguez has more than 29 years of experience working with children, adolescents, and their families. She has been a school counselor at the Middle School of Plainville since 2005 and is certified as a school counselor through the State of Connecticut. Mrs. Rodriguez earned her Master of Science degree in Counseling from Central Connecticut State University and her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Connecticut. She is a professional member of the Connecticut School Counselor Association.
