The 8th Grade has 2 teams:
the Aviators & the Navigators
Various events take place throughout the school year to assist the 8th grade students with their transition to high school.  Note:  Event dates and settings are subject to change.

Plainville High School
PHS Program of Studies Presentation:  
Students will be provided information regarding Plainville High School during an assembly facilitated by the Plainville High School Administrators & School Counselors.
PHS Tour:  Students will tour Plainville High School's academic and elective areas.
PHS Open House:  Parents/guardians and students attend an evening of information at PHS.
PHS Registration with HS Counselor:  Students meet with their High School Counselor to finalize courses for high school.

E.C. Goodwin Technical High School Presentation: 
EC Goodwin will present information to our MSP students regarding their program and admissions process

Southington Agricultural Science Program Presentation: 
Southington Ag Sci will present information to our MSP student regarding their program and admissions process

Students who are planning to apply to a private, magnet, or technical high school are advised to pay special attention to application requirements and deadlines. 

At various times throughout the school year, the School Counselors deliver Counseling Workshops in the classroom to help students with academic, personal/social, and career development. The workshops for the 8th Grade are:

Career Key - Students will complete the Career Key questionnaire using Naviance. They will discover which Holland personality type they are most like. Students will gain some new ideas and insight into career options which align with their personality type.
PHS Q & A - Students will become familiar with key high school terminology.

Various groups will be offered to students to participate in throughout the school year. The groups are held for a variety of reasons such as: improving social skills, improving self-esteem, coping with family changes, coping with grief, managing anger, etc.

Individual planning interviews take place throughout the school year with each 8th grade student. These interviews are conducted in order to assist each student with establishing future goals and to identify activities, interests, strengths/weaknesses and likes/dislikes.

Mrs. Grodzicki has been a School Counselor at the Middle School of Plainville since 2001. She became a Licensed Professional Counselor (L.P.C.) in 2010.  When she is not at school, she is hanging out with her husband, 2 sons, cat, 2 dogs and 14 chickens.  She is a Committee Member and Merit Badge Counselor of BSA Troop 27 in Durham/Middlefield. She volunteers at the Hospital for Special Care, Manes & Motion Therapeutic Riding Center.

She received her:
Bachelor of Arts, Major in Psychology, Minor in Sociology from Central CT State University.

Master of Science in Counseling, Specialization in School Counseling from Central CT State University.

Certification in Educational Leadership from Sacred Heart University.
