Learning continued over the summer through the 2019 RAMP (Reading And Math Power) Program housed at Linden Street School during the month of July. This year, 44 students in kindergarten through third grade from all three Plainville elementary schools attended this annual summer program.

At their June 10th meeting, the Plainville Board of Education recognized the following individuals who will retire this year for their many years of service to Plainville Community Schools...

Plainville Community Schools has named Linden Street School music teacher Marilyn Speranza the 2019-2020 Teacher of the Year. Speranza was nominated by Linden colleague Michael Boncimino.

Plainville Community Schools’ annual Volunteer Recognition Dinner and Awards Program was held on May 22nd, at Plainville High School

Plainville High School Junior Christopher St. Lawrence was selected as one of 22 of Connecticut’s top juniors designated as Governor’s Scholars.

On Sunday, May 19th, 35 students from all three Plainville elementary schools performed the National Anthem at the NCAA Lacrosse Quarterfinal Tournament held at Rentschler Field in East Hartford.

Plainville High School students JoAnna Salmon and Michael Torres have been named recipients of the second semester “Students Rock Award” recognizing their outstanding contributions to Plainville High School.

Steven LePage, currently assistant superintendent of Plainville Community Schools, has been named superintendent, effective July 1st. LePage will replace Dr. Maureen Brummett, who was recently named superintendent of the Newington, Connecticut school system, where she will begin on July 1st.

The Plainville High School's Interact Club (the youth branch of the local Rotary Club in Plainville) recently hosted the 7th annual Senior Citizen Prom in the school's cafeteria.

Marc Brackett, Ph.D., the Founding Director of the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence and Professor at the Yale School of Medicine at Yale University visited the Middle School of Plainville on April 24th, to provide an interactive presentation to district faculty members and administrators about his systemic, evidence based approach to social and emotional learning program known as “RULER.” RULER stands for Recognizing, Understanding, Labeling, Expressing, and Regulating emotions.

Plainville Community Schools will host a “Superintendent’s Update and Informational Showcase” on Monday, April 29, 2019. The program will be held from 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM in the Plainville High School’s cafeterias, 47 Robert Holcomb Way.

Big Y of Plainville recently held a "Tissues for Teachers" drive, collecting over 200 boxes of tissues donated in the Big Y store by customers to supplement supplies for Plainville schools.

The Plainville Community Schools volunteer mentors and their student mentees enjoyed the annual "Mentor Fun Night" event with a "LegOlympics" themed program held at Plainville High School on March 18th.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Maureen Brummett, Plainville Board of Education members Foster White, Becky Tyrrell, and Crystal St. Lawrence, and Plainville Board of Education student representatives Allie Chambrello and Maddie Lund attended the annual Connecticut Association of Boards of Education “CABE Day on the Hill” event in Hartford, Connecticut

The VEX IQ Robotics State Championship was held on March 9th at the Middle School of Plainville. 54 elementary and middle school teams from throughout the state competed for eight spots that would qualify them to compete at the World VEX competition in Louisville, Kentucky in April.

Plainville Community Schools’ Custodian Greg Masse is one of two winners of the national Champions of Clean Contest sponsored by Clorox. Masse was nominated by Facilities Department Office Professional, Sandy Bouchard.

Middle School of Plainville student Dale Neyra has been selected to receive the United Way of West Central Connecticut’s “Youth Live United Award” for Plainville, according to United Way’s President, Donna Osuch.

March is National Music in our Schools Month. To start the month of music-making, Linden Street School and Louis Toffolon Elementary School invited families to attend music classes with their children.

Art teacher Michael Zaba (CT ’18) goes to great lengths to tie the creative projects in his classroom to everything else his students are learning: “I love making interdisciplinary connections.” He won Connecticut’s 2018-19 Milken Educator Award at Louis Toffolon School in Plainville on January 23, 2019.

The VEX IQ Robotics State Championship was held this past Saturday at the Middle School of Plainville. 54 elementary and middle school teams from throughout the state competed for eight spots that would qualify them to compete at the World VEX competition in Louisville Kentucky.

) Children who will be five (5) years old on or before January 1, 2020 are eligible for kindergarten (full day program) in September, 2019.

Plainville Community Schools’ will host the first annual School Business Community Partnership breakfast event on Wednesday, March 13, 2019, from 8:00 AM – 10:00 AM in the Plainville High School Cafeteria, according to Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Maureen Brummett.

The Middle School of Plainville will host the 5th annual VEX IQ Robotics State Championship on March 9, 2019.  The event will feature over 50 teams from elementary and middle schools across the state.

The Plainville Community Schools Preschool Program will begin accepting registrations on Monday, March 1, 2019 for children who reside in Plainville and will be age four (4) by December 31, 2019 and who were born between January 1, 2015 and December 31, 2015.

Louis Toffolon Elementary School art teacher Mike Zaba was honored as a recipient of the Milken Family Foundation National Educator Award on January 23rd at a surprise recognition program assembly held at Toffolon School

)  Plainville High School Mathematics teacher and Instructional Leader Jennifer DeLorenzo, has been named an assistant principal, according to Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Maureen Brummett. DeLorenzo replaces former Plainville High School Assistant Principal Carl Johnson, who became principal in November.

Plainville Community Schools recently received a grant from the Community Foundation of Greater New Britain to improve high school security. The grant was used to purchase 23 additional security cameras at Plainville High School. The grant was funded by the Schaller Auto group.

Plainville Adult and Continuing Education will offer programming, free of cost, this spring in a variety of areas

Students in Kristi Naka’s Spanish classes at Plainville High School are connecting with peers across the globe through two unique hands on classroom projects this year

Plainville Adult and Continuing Education students collected holiday gifts to benefit Victorian Gardens, a local Residential Care Home for Adults in Plainville.

The Plainville school district has been recognized with several awards from the Connecticut Association of Boards of Education (CABE), according to Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Maureen Brummett.

Plainville High School hosted the 4th annual "Go Baby Go" event December 7th & 8th, during which toy ride-on cars for children with special needs were modified, refurbished, and presented to local families.

Plainville High School hosted the 7th annual Career Day program for students on November 30th. More than 70 speakers covering over 40 career sectors participated in the event.

The Plainville Coalition for Positive Youth Development hosted a parent workshop entitled "Chromebooks, The Internet & Your Child's Digital World" on November 29th.

Plainville Community Schools engaged their community in an exchange about what we're doing well and where we can improve. We invited participants to share thoughts and rate the thoughts of others.

Each year, the Plainville High School's Italian National Honor Society's philanthropy project centers around the Plainville Senior Center. This year, the student members designed and created “snow people” out of clay pots.

Plainville Community Schools will soon have an additional security measure in place with the installation of the Raptor visitor management system in all five Plainville schools.

Plainville Community Schools held a number of activities and programs across the school district on November 10th, to honor and recognize veterans.

The Middle School of Plainville Health Classes, led by faculty members Cindy Birdsall and Melanie Olmstead, sponsored "Operation Sweaters for Veterans!" Gently used coats, gloves and hats were collected.

Twelve Plainville students received the Connecticut Association of Public School Superintendents’ (CAPSS) Superintendent / Student Recognition Award and Certificate of Excellence at the 31st annual Superintendent’s Award Presentation held on November 7th, during a luncheon at J. Timothy’s Restaurant.

The Fall can be stressful for students (and parents!). Through a partnership with Wheeler Clinic, new school-based behavioral health clinics at The Middle School of Plainville and Linden Street School can help students and families address behavioral health challenges that may negatively impact their academic performance.

The courtyard at Linden Street School now shines a little brighter thanks to the support, talent and generosity of School / Business / Community partner Gary Fett, owner of Fluid Control Solutions, a Plainville manufacturer, together with his colleagues, who designed, built and donated an eco-frendly greenhouse for the space at Linden

Middle School of Plainville faculty and staff donned costumes for their annual "Costumes for Charity" event on Halloween. Students vote with "donations" on their favorite costumes and donations are given to the Plainville Community Food Pantry.

Plainville Community Schools hosted a safety forum for parents and the community on Wednesday, September 26th, from 6:30PM-8:00PM in the Mel Perry Auditorium at Plainville High School, 47 Robert Holcomb Way

The Linden Street School community partnered with Central Connecticut State University's Dr. Lynda Valerie, Professor of Literacy, Elementary, & Early Childhood Education, and the Elementary Reading and Language Arts Department faculty and students to host the first annual CCSU Literacy Night at Linden on October 11th.

A $2,500 grant from the Plainville Community Fund at Main Street Community Foundation will support the new “Go Kid Go” program, a collaborative initiative to help students with special needs in Plainville schools, according to Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Maureen Brummett.

 The Collaborative Conference visit will be conducted under the direction of the Commission on Public Schools of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.  The Collaborative Conference visiting team will be chaired by Alyson Geary, Deputy Director at NEASC, who has had extensive experience in the Association’s Accreditation process.

Plainville Community Schools will be conducting developmental preschool screenings for children who reside in Plainville and are three (3) or four (4) years old. Screenings will be held on October 12, 2018, December 14, 2018, March 22, 2019 and May 31, 2019.

Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Maureen Brummett has been appointed a member of the Connecticut Advisory Commission on Intergovernmental Relations. Brummett joins legislators, mayors, lobbyists, Board of Education members, and the state’s Office of Policy and Management on the committee.

The Plainville VFW Post 574 sponsored a raffle over the summer to benefit the school district’s athletic program as well as the Plainville Community Food Pantry, according to Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Maureen Brummett.

School Psychologist Suzanne Schweitzer has been named recipient of the Thomas DiCorleto Memorial Outstanding Service Award, from the Farmington Valley Special Education Directors Association. Middle School of Plainville School Psychologist, Justine Misseri, nominated Schweitzer for the prestigious award which was developed to honor the Farmington Valley Directors’ beloved colleague, Tom DiCorleto, and his lifelong commitment to the service of students with special needs. The award is presented annually to a person who embodies the passion and commitment to children that Mr. DiCorleto demonstrated throughout his lifetime.

The Plainville Community school district hosted a panel discussion on setting and influencing educational policy on August 14 at the Middle School of Plainville.
