1. Board of Education

The Board of Education holds the certified personnel responsible for the proper conduct and control of students while legally under the supervision and jurisdiction of the school.

2. Principal

The Principal may implement necessary procedures and school rules and regulations to render effective the policies of the Board of Education relating to standards of student behavior. The Principals may involve representatives from areas of school personnel, students, parents, and citizens of the community in developing standards, specific rules and regulations, and procedures for student conduct at school and in out-of-school activities.

3. Certified staff

Teachers, administrators, and other certified staff are responsible for the proper discipline of students while they are under the supervision and jurisdiction of the particular school and the school district.

4. Teachers

Teachers shall be responsible for the instruction of students in rules and regulations of proper conduct, as well as be responsible for proper and adequate control of students. The responsibility and authority of any teacher extends to all students of the school district under the assigned supervision of the teacher and to other students with whom the teacher comes into contact throughout his or her workday.

5. Support Staff

Instructional and other aides, custodians, secretaries and clerks, cafeteria employees, bus drivers, and other non-certified staff are responsible for appropriate reporting of inappropriate student behavior and actions to teachers and administrators and for intervention and necessary and lawful action in the absence of certified staff to preserve personal safety of other students, staff, and to safeguard school district property.

6. Parents

Parents shall be expected to cooperate with and to support school authorities regarding the behavior and discipline of their children. Parents shall be held responsible for willful misbehavior of their children and for any destructive acts on school property.

Student Behavior

Students shall be properly instructed in rules and regulations of acceptable conduct; they shall then be responsible for understanding and complying with the school and school district standards of behavior. Any student who fails to comply with these rules and regulations concerning student behavior may be subject to suspension, exclusion, or expulsion.

Notification of Behavior Code

The Superintendent of Schools shall, at the beginning of each school year, notify parents or guardians of minor students registered in the district of district policies, and regulations on student discipline.

The Principal of each school shall take steps to insure that these policies and regulations are communicated to students at the beginning of each school year, and to transfer students at the time of their enrollment in the school.
