PHS "Adopt a Senior 2020" Program Seeks Community Support
Posted on 05/13/2020
While end of year activities and plans for the Plainville High School Class of 2020 graduation on June 12th are underway, a unique program has been developed by school and district administration, together with the high school’s Parent Advisory Council, as a tribute to the graduating senior class. The “Adopt a Senior 2020” initiative was created as a way to enhance this year’s non-traditional senior year events and graduation day festivities, in light of the current pandemic and restrictions on public gatherings.

The “Adopt a Senior 2020” program invites members of the local community to “adopt” a Plainville High School senior by making a financial donation, which will be used to create “care packages” for each of the 158 members of the Plainville High School Senior Class. The care packages will be distributed to every member of the senior class in June.

“We would like to present each of our Seniors with a send-off that they will remember,” explained Plainville High School Parent Advisory Council Secretary, Lisa Levesque. The kids have worked very hard to get to this point in their education, and this will allow us to put together some really great tokens of their time here in Plainville and celebrate their accomplishments.”

Members of the community can “adopt” one PHS senior for a donation of  $20, two seniors for a  $40 donation, up to any dollar amount. No donation is too small, and all donations will be used to purchase gift cards and other items for the graduation care packages.

Community members who wish to donate to the “Adopt a Senior 2020 program” may do so as follows:

⦁ Via check made payable to “PHS PAC – Adopt” and mailed to:

Lisa Levesque
C/O PHSPAC – Adopt
190A Redstone Hill
Plainville, CT 06062
⦁ Electronic payment via Venmo:  @Phspac-Plainville

The deadline for all donations is Friday, May 29th, 2020.

“We are looking at every way to support this special group of students. They are missing out on some important traditions of senior year but we are going to add some new ideas, and this is just one of them, that is going to make this moment special no matter the circumstances,” said Plainville High School Principal, Carl Johnson.
“Despite the unfortunate obstacles preventing the traditional celebrations we have become so accustomed to, I feel fortunate to lead a district with such a caring and committed team of administrators, educators, families and students who all want to be involved in helping to celebrate our Class of 2020. This coming together and opportunity to show support and generosity from anyone in the community is yet another reason that Plainville is such a special place to live, to work, and to graduate from,” noted Superintendent of Schools, Steven LePage.
