| The third graders at Louis Toffolon Elementary School recently enjoyed a presentation by Mrs. Eberhardt and Mrs. Stanley from the Plainville Historical Society, about the Tunxis Indians, the tribe of Native Americans that used to live in the area that became the town of Plainville. The students had the opportunity to touch many artifacts, including a garden hoe, a birchbark bowl, storage containers made from gourds, and an arrow. They will be learning more about the Tunxis and the history of Plainville during the school year, and they will be taking a field trip to the Plainville Historical Society in the spring. |

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TOFFOLON!
Toffolon celebrated its first birthday as a newly renovated school. After calling the old Linden Street School home for two and a half years, one year ago students moved back to their beautiful new school. Mrs. Logoyke praised students for working hard to keep their school looking sparkling brand new. She reminded students that one of the the Toffolon traits is respect and that includes respect for the school environment in addition to the people in it. Toffolon students and staff have done a fine job of respecting their new school and keeping it looking new. |

| Students at Toffolon joined together on Wednesday to celebrate their reading accomplishments. Since October, students have been keeping track of the number of minutes they read at home each night. Students who met the reading goal came to school dressed in their pajamas. In the afternoon stories were read by Mrs. Logoyke in the gym as the students enjoyed popcorn. |

Toffolon's Bag of Treats
Students in grades K-5 were invited to participate in a fun Community Service project. After trick or treating or attending a Halloween party, the children were to choose 3 or more candies from their treat bags and bring those candies to school to donate to the Toffolon's Bag of Treats.
The candy was then going to be donated to the American Read Cross chapter located in New Britain. The Red Cross was then going to distribute it to families in the Transitional Housing Program and local food pantries and other programs that provide food for those in shelters.
The project was a huge success with the staff and students collecting 101 pounds of candy! The student council officers along with their friends helped count the pieces of candy which came to a total of 3,678 pieces! |
| The Kindergarten classes at Louis Toffolon Elementary School have been studying the life cycle of the Monarch butterfly. On October 19th, the classes released six butterflies and have ten butterflies remaining that should soon be emerging from their chrysalis’. The kindergarteners also learned that the butterflies will migrate to Mexico for the winter. |
