Mr. Peabody’s Apples at Wheeler

Wheeler Elementary School students in Lindsay Crane's fifth grade class recently read Mr. Peabody's Apples written by “Madonna”, followed by participating in an activity, where they squeezed all of the toothpaste out of a tube and were then asked to put all of it back into the tube. The toothpaste represented words that can be unkind, and that cannot be taken back.  The book read by the class highlighted a similar example of feathers blown onto a baseball field, and the inability for the student character in the book to pick them all up, reiterating the notion that what we say to or about others can never be 100% taken back. The book and related exercise provided an engaging backdrop for the fifth graders to think deeply about this topic as part of  Social Emotional Learning.
