Local Groups Organize Back to School “Backpack Program” for Those in Need

person wearing a backpack Former Superintendent of Schools Dr. Maureen Brummett, Assistant Town Manager Shirley Osle, and Plainville Community Food Pantry Executive Director Susie Woerz, together with the United Way of West Central Connecticut and the Plainville Rotary Club, have organized a back to school "Backpack Program" for Plainville Community School District students in need, for the 2019-20 school year. Eligible students will be provided with a backpack filled with back to school supplies and an outfit for the first day of school.
For additional information about the program, parents should contact Susie Woerz at (860) 747-1919. Those interested in donating items for the Backpack Program can drop them off at the Plainville Community Food Pantry. Items in greatest need include backpacks, clothing items for elementary aged students or gift cards to clothing stores, and school supplies such as crayons, colored pencils, notebooks, and folders.
