Steering Committee Response to Community Sentiments

Existing Enrollment 553
Existing School Facility 92,266 gsf
Existing Parking 115 cars
Additionally, the existing 1929
Linden Street School will be available for future use in support of the long range plan

The current project cost estimate is $21,770,000. Bonding rates are lower than 2 years ago and in fact are at their lowest in many years, thus the total cost of the project is reduced. The square footage of the building has been reduced and the building footprint is smaller than in the previous proposal.

The result of the Long-Range Plan is a comprehensive Pre K-12 facilities plan for the district. This plan addresses each of our school facilities and outlines a plan by which the town can address the future needs of the entire school district. Linden Street School will alleviate any initial overcrowding at the elementary level and provide valuable swing space for future projects.

The Plainville Community Schools' Steering Committee has formed a Communications Committee whose focus is to provide information on the Linden project. Every effort will be made to provide accurate information through the use of newspapers, public access TV and a website. Public presentations will be made to various community groups and all residents are encouraged to attend these presentations.

The current plan provides space to accommodate the educational program, maintains the athletic field on the Linden property, and the eventual renovation of the 1929 building will provide space for future use in support of the long range plan.

  • The original portion of the Linden Street School is 74 years old. Issues of code compliance, handicap accessibility, increased energy costs, security and the need for additional space make this building better suited for future use in support of the long range plan.
  • Bond rates are at their lowest point in many years. Linden Street School will cost less to the taxpayer due to these desirable bond rates.
  • Future enrollment projections indicate overcrowding will occur at all schools within the next few years. The proposed plan for Linden will accommodate approximately 150 additional students, which will free up space at all 3 elementary schools.
  • Linden is the KEY to the Long-Range Plan!
