PHS Presents: Thoroughly Modern Millie
Plainville High School recently presented Thoroughly Modern Millie, a story of a girl from Kansas who comes to New York City in 1922 to find a husband and seek her fortune.  The lead roles were played by Beau Dawson, as Millie, and Jeff Ciarcia, as Jimmy Smith. Plainville High School Science Instructor Thomas Connolly directed the production – the first high school musical to take place since renovations to the school auditorium were completed.

District Offers Comprehensive Preschool Program
The Plainville Community Schools Preschool Program has immediate openings available for qualified role model students. For the 2008-2009 school year, screenings for role models will be held in February and March.

"Our comprehensive preschool program follows the Connecticut Preschool Curriculum Frameworks, ensuring that we are providing a solid foundation for our students as they prepare to move through each grade level," noted Special Education Supervisor Anne Walsh.

PFRN Families Enjoy Hungerford "Visitors"
The Plainville Family Resource Network (PFRN) recently hosted a visit from the Hungerford Nature Center for PFRN families. The Hungerford Nature Center provided a naturalist who lead an interactive demonstration to acquaint the more than 30 children and their families in attendance with a variety of animals which included a chicken, a turtle, a chinchilla, a ferret, and a rabbit.

Girls Only Club Receives Grant
Plainville Board of Education Chair Becky Tyrrell, and Superintendent of Plainville Community Schools Dr. Kathleen Binkowski, accept a grant for the Girls Only Program at the Middle School of Plainville from Dawn Leger representing the Women & Girls' Fund of the Main Street Community Foundation. The presentation was made at a recent Plainville Board of Education meeting.

We welcome the 2007-2008 school year with much excitement and anticipation. This school year brings many new opportunities and new beginnings. From kindergarteners taking the initial steps on their educational path and students joining us in Plainville for the first time, to new faculty and staff members eager to teach, guide and inspire, there are endless possibilities as our educational journey continues. As Superintendent, it is my privilege to lead our school district in Plainville and I welcome the opportunity to work with students, parents, administrators, faculty, staff, business leaders, and the community this year as we join together to support Plainville's youth through our vision to "promote a challenging environment creating an extraordinary community of learners."


2007-2008 Teacher of the Year

Plainville Community Schools has named Plainville High School Technology Education Instructor David Gaignard the 2007-2008 Teacher of the Year. Gaignard has served as a Technology Education teacher in Plainville for six years. Under his direction, the communications program has grown to include a video production studio, a video control room, graphics and audio rooms, and an Internet radio station.

United Way Day of Caring 17 Registration Information
The United Way of West Central Connecticut, serving the communities of Bristol, Burlington, Plymouth, and Plainville, will hold its 17th annual Day of Caring on Friday, May 16th and Saturday, May 17th in Plainville this year. In response to Dr. William Petit’s appeal to the public, the Plainville Community and the United Way are inviting you to join us for a Call to Serve: "go forward and help a neighbor, love your families, and fight for a cause." The annual Day of Caring has been expanded to include Saturday, May 17th in an effort to involve local children and families as volunteers in a variety of community  projects. The deadline for volunteer registration is May 8th.

Town-Wide Art Show Announced
An opening night reception for the Town-Wide Art Show will be held on May 2nd from 6:00 PM — 8:00 PM at the Plainville Public Library. The PHS Culinary Arts Classes will serve student prepared foods at the event. The reception is open to the public. Student artwork from all five schools will be on display through May 28.


PHS Shortened Day on 5/7/08
Wednesday, May 7, 2008 will be a shortened day for students at Plainville High School. This will provide the staff with time to work on the school’s ongoing re-accreditation process. Dismissal will be at 12:10. Lunches will not be served.

Inclement Weather

In the event of inclement weather, the Plainville Community Schools may delay opening school 60 minutes, 90 minutes or 2 hours. The Connect-ED automated messaging system is utilized to directly contact parents who have selected this option, in the event of weather-related closings or delays. In addition, area radio and television stations will broadcast appropriate announcements. These announcements will also be accessible on the Internet at Connecticut Weather Center’s website: http://www.ctweather.com.
