COUNSELING WORKSHOPS:
At various times throughout the school year, the school counselors deliver Counseling Workshops in the classroom to help students with academic, personal/social, and career development. The workshops for the 7th Grade are:

My Goals - Students will create Academic, Career and Social/Emotional/Physical Development goals in Naviance. 7th grade students will review and update the goals they created in 6th grade.


Digital Smarts - Students will identify strategies for being safe and responsible on-line and recognize how personal behaviors, attitudes and actions can influence their reputation.



 
Understanding Yourself & Others - Students will become aware of their feelings, recognize differences among each other and develop a positive self-image.


Career Matchmaker  - Students will complete the Career Matchmaker Assessment on Career Cruising. They will explore careers of interest.



F.R.E.D DAY:  F.R.E.D.= Feel Relaxed Every Day.  On F.R.E.D. Day the 7th grade Teachers and School Counselor will deliver lessons on stress management and stress reduction strategies.  Our "mascot" is F.R.E.D., the breathing ball, which is used to help demonstrate breathing strategies.

GROUP COUNSELING:
Various groups will be offered to students to participate in throughout the school year. The groups are held for a variety of reasons such as: improving social skills, improving self-esteem, coping with family changes, coping with grief, managing anger, etc.
INDIVIDUAL PLANNING:
Individual planning interviews take place throughout the school year with each 7th grade student. These interviews are conducted in order to assist each student with establishing future goals and to identify activities, interests, strengths/weaknesses and likes/dislikes.

About Mrs. Grodzicki:
Mrs. Grodzicki has been a School Counselor at the Middle School of Plainville since 2001. She has been the Team Leader for the Counseling Department since 2013. Mrs. Grodzicki became a Licensed Professional Counselor (L.P.C.) in 2010, allowing her to provide counseling services outside of the school system. She received a Bachelor Degree in Psychology and a Master Degree in Counseling from Central Connecticut State University. She is certified as a Professional Educator from the State of Connecticut. She attended Sacred Heart University in Leadership Education and received her certification from the State of Connecticut as an Intermediate Administrator in June 2015. Mrs. Grodzicki is a Professional Member of the Connecticut School Counseling Association (CSCA).
