Policy The preparation of the annual budget shall be the responsibility of the Superintendent. He/she may delegate portions of the preparation to members of the school staff, but he/she shall be responsible for its final form.

Timeline

The tentative budget shall be presented to the board not later than January 15th.

The final budget shall be presented to the board for approval not later than the second Monday of February.

The budget shall be presented to the fiscal authority of the Town of Plainville as prescribed by that authority, not later than February 15th.

When budget revisions become necessary because of cuts or other reasons, such revisions shall be made not later than July 1st of the budget year in order that the implementation of the budget may begin without delay.

At the first regular meeting of the board of education, held in September, members of the board shall receive copies of the annual statement of expenditures for the previous fiscal year.

Board members may have any item of the budget placed on the agenda of any regular meeting by notifying the superintendent at least one week prior to the meeting.

Content of Budget

The budget shall include a summary showing: 1) the total cost of the maintenance of schools, 2) the amount received from the State and other sources for the maintenance of schools, and 3) the net cost to the municipality of the maintenance of schools.

The budget shall also contain a detailed analysis of the expenditures planned for the ensuing year. This analysis shall be prepared according to forms recommended for accounting and budget making by the State Department of Education and as indicated by the format of town authorities.
