PLAINVILLE BOARD OF EDUCATION Committee Minutes
Committee: Plainville Community Schools' Steering Committee
Date: January 15, 2004
Time: 7:35 p.m.
Attendees: Robert Ciotto, Jack Mastrianni, Kate Lawson, Ron Pavano, Bill Petit, Becky Tyrrell, Tom Wazorko, Barbara Willard
Also Present: Kathy Binkowski, ex officio, Suzanne Greenbacker, ex officio, Lynn Logoyke
Absent: Richard Ireland, Gail Millerick, Jay Steeves
Meeting was called to order by Bill Petit at 7:35 p.m.
The committee discussed membership. Lynn Logoyke, principal of Toffolon Elementary School will be added as an ex officio.
Kathy Binkowski reviewed updated enrollment projections with the committee. Enrollment projections from the district's Business Manager, Alan Schutz and an updated enrollment projection from the Town Planner, Len Tunderman were discussed.
The committee discussed bringing in an architect firm to look at Toffolon and do a building analysis based on the program needs. The committee agreed to ask for proposals from both Fletcher-Thompson and Jeter Cook & Jepson for the building analysis.
The committee also discussed the Middle School of Plainville and building out more classrooms in the basement. Oak Hill School for the Blind, which leases classroom space in the basement level of MSP would like to expand its space and would build 3 additional classrooms for the district at their cost. The committee would like to have the architects do an analysis of MSP.
RON PAVANO MADE A MOTION TO HAVE KATHY BINKOWSKI SEND LETTERS TO JETER COOK & JEPSON AND FLETCHER-THOMPSON FOR PROPOSALS FOR BUILDING ANALYSIS OF TOFFOLON AND THE MIDDLE SCHOOL. BECKY TYRRELL SECONDED THE MOTION. MOTION PASSED UNANIMOUSLY.
The Steering Committee would like proposals by the next meeting. The proposals should
be in line with the committee's long-range plan and the architects can meet with the superintendent if they need additional information.
The Steering Committee will hold its next meeting on Monday, February 23, 2004 at 7:00 p.m. in the Linden Street School Library to review proposals from Fletcher-Thompson and Jeter Cook & Jepson.
The committee also discussed the parking lot at Toffolon School.
Bill Petit asked that the school district provide the committee with enrollment projections broken down by school and more information about redistricting.
RON PAVANO MADE A MOTION TO ADJOURN. TOM WAZORKO SECONDED THE MOTION. THE MOTION WAS APPROVED UNANIMOUSLY. The meeting was adjourned at 8:10 p.m.
