PLAINVILLE BOARD OF EDUCATION Committee Minutes Committee: Linden Street School Building Committee
Date: April 28, 2005 Time: 6:30 p.m. Attendees: Dan Dube, George Iskra, Steve Martino, Mel Masse, Jack Mastrianni, Ron Pavano, Ken Prigodich, Rodney Wolfel Also Present: Suzanne Greenbacker, Downes Construction: Paul Wojtowicz, Mike Midgette Absent: Ray Carroll, Becky Tyrrell, Barbara Willard Vice-Chairman Ron Pavano called the meeting to order at 6:37 pm. MEL MASSE MADE A MOTION TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE APRIL 13, 2005 MEETING. STEVE MARTINO SECONDED THE MOTION. THE MOTION PASSED UNANIMOUSLY. Bill Mead from JCJ did not attend the meeting. There was no update on the project from JCJ. Mike Midgette from Downes Construction gave an update on the project. • The staging for the Kindergarten wing is down and they will begin installing the windows. • They will begin to install the ceiling grids. • The brick in the second story addition will be completed in 2 to 3 weeks. All of the windows for this portion of the project have been delivered. • The interior CMU is 100 percent complete on the first floor and 70 percent complete on the second floor. • The slab and concrete demolition has been done in the gym. • The retaining wall will be poured. • The ramp on the northeast side will begin soon. • The bus turn around is almost complete. • The cafeteria abatement was completed last week. • Manafort has begun demolition in the serving area. • Next week construction will begin on the underground plumbing for the project. 1 of 3 Jack Mastrianni inquired about the brick they are using. Mike Midgette reported that the brick is almost a perfect match between the new and the old brick. Rodney Wolfel asked if an additive was used in the concrete. Paul Wojtowicz explained that not additive is being used. The construction company felt that it wasn’t going to achieve what they thought it would. They received mixed reports on the additive. Mike Midgette reported that everything is wet cured. Discussion continued regarding concrete additives. Change Order Proposal Review 1. COP No 17 Roof replacement at 1970’s Building a. Gold Seal Home Improvements $258,459.00 b. Shepard Steel, roof drain support frames 8,977.00 c. Ferguson Mechanical, roof drains, T&M basis 28,000.00 d. Allowance for removing and installing ceilings 5,000.00 TOTAL $297,436.00* *Does not include any costs for potential wood blocking replacement. 2. COP No. 69, Change light fixture types, FEI $1,207.00 3. COP No. 74, Add emergency fixtures in Area 3, (8) ea., FEI $4,381.00 MEL MASSE MADE A MOTION TO APPROVE THE CHANGE ORDERS. JACK MASTRIANNI SECONDED THE MOTION. THE MOTION PASSED UNANIMOUSLY. Ken Prigodich reported that he spoke with Robert E. Lee, Town Manager regarding vandalism on the project at Linden Street School. Mr. Lee will contact Chief Coppinger to have extra patrols in the area. Mr. Pavano will also be patrolling the area. GEORGE ISKRA MADE A MOTION TO ADJOURN THE MEETING. STEVE MARTINO SECONDED THE MOTION. THE MOTION PASSED UNANIMOUSLY. The meeting was adjourned at 6:55 pm. The next meeting will be held at 6:30 pm on Thursday, May 12, 2005 in the Linden Street School Library.
