The Linden Street School Building Committee will hold a special meeting on Thursday, August 5, 2004 at 6:30 p.m. in the Linden Street School Library, 69 Linden Street, Plainville, Connecticut. Date: August 5, 2004 Time: 6:30 p.m. Attendees: Ray Carroll, George Iskra, Jack Mastrianni, Steve Martino, Ron Pavano, Ken Prigodich, Becky Tyrrell, Barbara Willard, Rodney Wolfel (7:15 p.m.) Also Present: Suzanne Greenbacker, Jeter Cook & Jebson: Bill Mead, Downes Construction: Paul Wojtowicz, Mike Midgette Absent: Daniel Dube, Mel Masse At 6:30 p.m. Ken Prigodich called the meeting to order. RON PAVANO MADE A MOTION TO APPROVE THE MINUTES FROM THE JULY 22, 2004 MEETING. STEVE MARTINO SECONDED THE MOTION. THE MOTION PASSED UNANIMOUSLY. Mr. Mead, from Jeter Cook & Jebson, gave an update to the committee. He reported that the building commissioner and the fire marshal had signed off on the items for the SFU. A discussion regarding Item #19, HazMat needs to be reviewed (asbestos in Linden Street School). Mr. Mead felt this item should not be a problem. Copies of the TRC, abatement documents, will be reviewed by the building official. Mr. Mead reported that Bill, the Building Official, is asking who will file the building permit? There is a 16 cent/thousand fee that cannot be waved. Downes Construction will file for the permit and pay the fee. The committee will reimburse Downes Construction. All filed documents will be dated 8/12/04. Mr. Mead also requested that a pre-construction meeting to go over procedures be scheduled as soon as everyone is in place. Jim Pello for JCJ will be joining the committee. Mr. Mead would like the committee to make a decision on the brick panels that are at the school. The bricks need to be put into the construction specifications. Mr. Mastrianni asked where the committee is on the gas line. The gas company wants the committee to put the line in. They are willing to pay for the line as long as the committee uses only gas. The committee will not commit to this. They still want to use a duel fuel system. Alan Schutz, Business Manager, will do a cost study. Mr. Mead stated that the committee needs to schedule a PTC date to submit documents to the school facilities. The request needs to come from Kathleen Binkowski, Superintendent of Schools. George Iskra questioned any changes in coding after September 1, 2004. Discussion followed. RON PAVANO MADE A MOTION TO PAY THE JCJ JULY 5, 2004 INVOICE FOR $18,839.10. GEORGE ISKRA SECONDED THE MOTION. THE MOTION PASSED UNANIMOUSLY. Mr. Wojtowicz, from Downes Construction, gave an update to the committee. There were 5 steel bids submitted. Shepard Steel was the least expensive. RON PAVANO MADE A MOTION TO SEND A NOTICE OF INTENT TO REWARD TO SHEPARD STEEL. STEVE MARTINO SECONDED THE MOTION. THE MOTION PASSED UNANIMOUSLY. THE STEEL BID IS IN THE AMOUNT OF $1,128,000. Mr. Wojtowicz feels that all bids should be in by mid September. Mr. Wojtowicz gave the committee a list of dates when abatement procedures will be done at Linden Street School. All dates reflect scheduled time off from school. Tests need to be done prior to students returning. Discussion continued regarding temporary storage areas. Mr. Wojtowicz feels the construction budget is in ‘good shape’. Mr. Wojtowicz presented information that he would like JCJ and the Committee to review. It is in regards to Peskon Moisture Solutions. It is a 2-step procedure that is added to concrete. The system is designed to stop moisture. Ron Pavano would like to see a floor done with the solution. He will also speak with James Manafort regarding the product. Local sight: The Westerly Hospital, Pawcatuck, CT. Tuesday, August 10, 2004 there will a Community Meeting at 7:00 p.m. in the Linden Street School Cafeteria. This is an informational meeting for parents and neighbors. The committee will try to answer any questions or concerns the public may have. Ken Prigodich, Robert Metcalf, Robert E. Lee and Downes Construction representatives will meet on Friday, August 6, 2004 to discuss the Linden Project. Eagle Fencing of Plainville will put a fence around the construction sight the week of August 16, 2004. JACK MASTRIANNI MADE A MOTION TO ADJOURN. BARBARA WILLARD SECONDED THE MOTION. THE MOTION PASSED UNANIMOUSLY. The meeting was adjourned at 7:25 p.m.
