Faculty Member Named Elementary Physcial Education Teacher Of The Year
Linden Street School Physical Education teacher Melissa Patterson has been named the 2016 Elementary Physical Education Teacher of the Year by the Connecticut Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (CTAHPERD).
Patterson was nominated by former student teacher Mark Dallavalle and Dr. Amy Gagnon of Central Connecticut State University. As part of the nomination process, Patterson had to provide four letters of recommendation, develop a 30 minute video of herself teaching, and complete five essay questions.
Patterson holds both bachelor and master degrees from Central Connecticut State University, and has been teaching in the Plainville school system for 15 years.
"I just love watching Mrs. Patterson with our scholars; she is positive, patient, and a role model. She goes above and beyond to help others and teach; with a ready smile and a supportive force for her colleagues. Last year she even ran our Kidathlon on her birthday--and it was awesome! Certainly a well-deserved honor," said Linden Principal Paula Eshoo.
"Melissa is a tremendous educator who clearly loves what she does. I am so proud of her for achieving this recognition," noted Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Maureen Brummett.
Patterson will be honored at the CTAHPERD 34th Annual Awards Banquet on November 17th. Her application has also been submitted to the SHAPE America Eastern District Elementary Physical Education Teacher of the Year Awards program.
