Plainville High School students Myranda LaPira and Jarod Romankiw were honored at the May 9th Plainville Board of Education meeting as recipients of the Connecticut Association of Boards of Education (CABE) Student Leadership Award.
LaPira, a senior, exemplifies the characteristics of leadership in a variety of ways at Plainville High School. She is a strong student who balances the demands of her studies while making time to assist peers and get involved in school and the community. She is an active member of the National Honor Society, Italian National Honor Society and French-Italian Club, and is highly respected and appreciated by faculty and staff. She has been a dedicated four year athlete on the volleyball team, and a peer athlete on the Unified Sports Basketball Team. LaPira is one of only four students chosen annually for the high school's Students Rock Award, selected by faculty and presented to students representing the very best character traits that exemplify exceptional character and "doing the right thing every day." LaPira is also a talented saxophonist in the marching, concert and jazz bands. She plans to pursue a college degree in business, and later open a business specializing in hearing aids.
Romankiw, a senior at Plainville High School, is a high-ranking student with an exceptional work ethic and dedication to academics, school clubs and organizations. His course load includes numerous Advanced Placement and college credit bearing courses. He is a member of the National Honor Society and the Science National Honor Society, and has received multiple awards and honors for academic achievement, including recognitions for math and science excellence and membership on the CIAC All-Academic Team in two sports each year. Romankiw is a second year editor, third year photographer and member of the yearbook staff. He has earned distinguished character recognitions through the Petit Family Foundation's "Be the Change Award" and the high school's Students Rock Award. He is also a dedicated athlete as a four year member and captain of the cross country and tennis teams. In addition, he is a gifted saxophonist and musician in the concert, marching, and jazz bands. He intends to pursue a career in the field of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
"Myranda and Jarod represent two of our finest examples of the exemplary outcomes that Plainville High School students can achieve. Through scholarship, hard work, dedication to positive school involvements and exemplary character, Jarod and Myranda demonstrate that Plainville High School students can achieve anything. I commend and congratulate these fine students and compliment their families for their support in helping their children to achieve this honor," said Plainville High School Principal, Steven LePage.
According to CABE, the Student Leadership Awards program, now in its 20th year, was developed to give local board of educations the opportunity to recognize student achievement and potential.
