Plainville High School Hosts 4th Annual Senior Citizen Prom
The cafeteria at Plainville High School was transformed with a "casino night" theme on the evening of April 28th where close to 100 senior citizens joined high school student members of the school's Interact Club and their advisors for the 4th annual Senior Citizen Prom. Students and local senior citizens gathered for a magical evening of dinner, dancing, socializing, raffles, a photo booth, and superlative awards, as they enjoyed the prom event sponsored by the school's Interact Club, the youth branch of the local Rotary Club in Plainville.
Interact Club student members greeted the seniors as they entered the school's cafeteria for the event, served a full course meal, and ensured that their guests enjoyed themselves throughout the evening. Music was provided by The Senior Eighth Notes, a local "senior" band that welcomed Plainville High School Principal Steven LePage, who demonstrated his saxophone skills with the band. A variety of raffle prizes were donated by local establishments, and superlatives were awarded in several categories including Prom King and Queen, Best Dancers, Best Outfit, and more.
"Being President of the club for the last two years and a member of the club since freshman year has been the best experience of my high school career. Every year during the spring, I look forward to the Senior Citizen Prom, for it definitely takes a club effort to pull it all together. The club officers work diligently behind the scenes to make sure everything is prepared and ready to go, and I can't thank them enough for their help. I believe that the Senior Citizen Prom is one of the biggest events, and that a large number of PHS students work together, though they may not even know each other, just to assist and put on one of the most memorable nights for our senior citizens, and it is fantastic! A very special thank you to our amazing advisors Ms. Judy Hahn & Mr. Steven LePage for making this all possible," noted Plainville High School Interact Club President, Shatsada Lovan.
"This is one of my favorite community service events that our Interact Club officers and members put together each year. The time and effort spent by all is tremendous, and the community support from many sponsors and businesses is wonderful. Pagliacci's Restaurant has also been excellent to work with, providing the food at a very reasonable cost and making this a very affordable event for our guests. I am proud of our officers and members, and would also like to thank my co-advisor of Interact, Ms. Judy Hahn for her dedication and leadership. It takes many to put a successful event together including support from our wonderful Italian teacher, Mrs. Colangelo, and her students who bake most of the desserts for the event each year. PHS Social Studies teacher, Eric Bosley, also works the photo booth with student helpers throughout the night so that senior guests can capture memories with friends and students. This event is a win-win, benefitting all who are involved. I'm very proud of our kids and thankful to fellow staff members who pitch in to make the night a hit," said Plainville High School Principal, Steven LePage.
