Dr. Maureen Brummett Named Superintendent For Plainville Community Schools
Dr. Maureen Brummett, currently assistant superintendent for the Plainville school system, has been named superintendent for Plainville Community Schools. Brummett will replace Dr. Jeffrey Kitching, who has accepted a position as executive director for Education Connection in Litchfield, Connecticut.
Brummett began her career in education as a special education teacher in Waterbury, then held several positions in New York, Washington and California before becoming instructional leader, then supervisor of special education for Plainville Community Schools. She then served as the director of special education before she was appointed assistant superintendent for the Plainville school district in 2010.
Brummett served as an adjunct professor at Central Connecticut State University, and has garnered a number of professional recognitions over the course of her career as an educator. She received the Plainville Community Schools 2015 Mentor of the Year Award, the Sheff Movement Exemplary Service Award, the United Way Community Builders Award, the YWCA Women in Leadership Award and the Easter Seals Educational Excellence Award. She is a member of several professional organizations, and has supported the local community through her participation on the Plainville Coalition for Positive Youth Development, the Plainville Human Services Committee, the Plainville Hunger Action Committee, and the Plainville Relay for Life. She has also served as a presenter at several regional and national professional conferences.
Brummett holds a bachelor of science degree from Saint Joseph College, as well as a master of science degree, administrative certification, a sixth year professional certificate and a doctorate degree in Educational Leadership from Central Connecticut State University.
"Dr. Brummett is the right person to carry forward the wonderful initiatives and programs established in the district over the past few years. The Board has the greatest confidence in her ability to keep us moving in a positive direction," said Plainville Board of Education Chair, Andrea Saunders.
"I am thrilled for Maureen and so pleased for Plainville. In Dr. Brummett the Board has selected a skilled educational leader with a proven commitment to this district and an understanding of the community," added Kitching.
Brummett was named the candidate of choice at the March 14th Board of Education meeting; she will begin as superintendent in Plainville on April 16th.
"I am honored and excited to be chosen to lead Plainville Community Schools, where I have proudly worked for the last 18 years. The administrative team is outstanding, as are our teachers, staff, and students. I look forward to continuing and building upon the excellent practices and programs established by Dr. Kitching," noted Brummett.
