Ms. Rosa M. Perez, currently an assistant principal at Plainville High School, has been named Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment, and Leanne Gmeindl, currently the Special Education Instructional Leader and a reading specialist at the Middle School of Plainville, has been named Supervisor of Special Education Instruction, according to Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Jeffrey Kitching.
Perez will replace current Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment, Dr. Linda Van Wagenen, who will retire in June. Perez has served as an assistant principal at Plainville High School since 2013. Prior to that, she held faculty and administrative positions in Suffield, Rocky Hill, Pomperaug, and Cheshire as well as serving as a faculty member at several Connecticut colleges / universities.
In her role as Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment, Perez will assist the district's central office administration in evaluating, revising and implementing department curriculum objectives, screening, hiring and training of elementary personnel, orientation and in-service training programs for elementary personnel, and promoting interdisciplinary programs. In addition, she will lead and coordinate curriculum development and revision for grades PreK through grade 12, coordinate the work of literacy resource teachers, assist colleagues in identifying, collecting and analyzing student data to improve instruction, assist in the development and delivery of professional learning opportunities for all staff, and more.
Perez holds a 6th year certificate in Educational Leadership and a master's degree from Central Connecticut State University, as well as a bachelor's degree from Assumption College.
Gmeindl will replace current Supervisor of Special Education Instruction, Anne Walsh, who will retire in June. Gmeindl currently serves as the Special Education Instructional Leader and a reading specialist at the Middle School of Plainville. Prior to that, she was a special education team leader and resource specialist at the Middle School, and held a variety of positions in education in California. She is also currently an adjunct professor at Quinnipiac University. Gmeindl was nominated for the 2015 Quinnipiac University Excellence in Teaching Award and was also named the 2013-14 Teacher of the Year in Plainville.
In her role as Supervisor of Special Education Instruction, Gmeindl will develop in-service programs for special education instructional staff, supervise programs, learning activities and special education instructional staff across the district, assist faculty members in the evaluation of teaching methods, classroom management, instructional materials, and specific instructional programs, and more.
Gmeindl holds a 6th year certificate in Educational Leadership from Quinnipiac University, a master’s degree from National University, and a bachelor's degree from Nazareth College of Rochester.
Perez and Gmeindl will begin in their respective new positions on July 1, 2016.
