Blitz Scheduled To Kick Off Free Breakfast And Lunch Program For Local Youth
A "Blitz Day" will be held on Friday, June 26, 2015, at 12:30 PM, at the Norton Park Band Shell in Plainville, to kick off the Connecticut No Kid Hungry campaign's free breakfast and lunch program for Plainville youth 18 years of age or younger, according to Assistant Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Maureen Brummett. The Connecticut No Kid Hungry campaign is a partnership of End Hunger Connecticut!, Share our StrengthÂ®, the Plainville Hunger Action Team and Lieutenant Governor Nancy Wyman, to increase awareness of the summer meals program in Plainville and other locations throughout Connecticut.
The Summer Meal Program in Plainville begins on Monday, June 22 in Norton Park. Meals will be offered Monday-Friday until August 21. Breakfast will be served from 8:45AM-9:45AM; lunch from 11:45AM-1:00PM. Anyone 18 years of age or younger can get a free breakfast and lunch.
During the "Blitz Day" event, representatives from End Hunger Connecticut!, the Connecticut No Kid Hungry campaign, the Plainville Hunger Action Team, Plainville Community Schools, Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman, State Representative Elizabeth Boukus, Town Manager Robert Lee and members of the Plainville Town Council will be on hand to distribute information and help raise awareness of the free summer meals program that will be available throughout the summer. Lt. Governor Wyman, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Jeffrey Kitching, Assistant Superintendent of Schools Dr. Maureen Brummett, and Town Council Chair Kathy Pugliese will provide comments during the event. In addition, End Hunger Connecticut! will host an informational table on the Blitz Day (June 26) at the first Farmer's Market of the summer from 3:00 PM â€" 6:00 PM on the grounds of Plainville High School, 47 Robert Holcomb Way.
"I am pleased that Plainville has been chosen as a Blitz site so we can promote the availability of free meals in Norton Park. It promises to be an exciting event and a great way to raise the public's awareness of the free meal program," said Brummett.
