Plainville High School students Stefany Barbagallo and Jarod Romankiw were honored at the May 11th Plainville Board of Education meeting as recipients of the Connecticut Association of Boards of Education (CABE) Student Leadership Award.
Barbagallo, a senior at Plainville High School, exemplifies the characteristics of leadership in a variety of ways at Plainville High School. Despite a challenging course load that includes a number of Advanced Placement classes, she is also a member of the tennis and volleyball teams, and serves as a manager of the wrestling team. She is treasurer of the Italian National Honor Society and president of the French Italian Club. In addition to her academic and athletic talents, she recently played one of the lead roles in the school’s drama production, and is a member and officer of the Plainville High School Interact Club, a service oriented high school extension of Rotary, which has an emphasis on making the school, community and world a better place through charitable efforts. Outside of school, she also serves at her church in multiple leadership capacities.
Romankiw, a junior at Plainville High School currently carries a rigorous course load which includes five Advance Placement courses, and is a member of both the cross country and tennis teams. In addition to his talents and abilities in the classroom, course and court, he is a lead saxophone player in the Jazz Band where he excels. Romankiw is a masterful photographer who dedicates countless hours of service to the school community is his roles as primary photographer and editor of the high school yearbook. In addition to his multiple school responsibilities and commitments, he also dedicates significant time to helping others through community service, tutoring fellow students in a variety of subject areas.
"Stefany and Jarod are outstanding students and all-around wonderful and contributing citizens within the Plainville High School community. They are models of the criteria used to select students for this CABE honor, and I am certain that this is only one of many honors to come in these remarkable students' futures," said Plainville High School Principal, Steven LePage.
According to CABE, the Student Leadership Awards program, now in its 19th year, was developed to give local board of educations the opportunity to recognize student achievement and potential.
