High School Students Honored With "Students Rock Award"
Plainville High School students Dominika Woch and Joey Chacho have been named recipients of the first semester "Students Rock Award" recognizing their outstanding contributions to Plainville High School.
In seeking a way to honor students who "do the right thing every day," the Plainville High School Mentoring Committee, comprised of high school faculty members and led by fellow faculty member Maria Colangelo, created the Students Rock Award during the 2009-10 school year. According to the nomination guidelines created by the committee, students to be considered for the award must assume responsibility for their behavior, contribute to the school and community, and appreciate the benefits of a physically, emotionally and socially healthy lifestyle. "It is with great pride that we honor Dominika Woch and Joey Chacho. Their stories of perseverance are inspiring, and their positive attitudes are contagious. They give us hope for a bright future," said Colangelo.
Dominika Woch, a junior, was nominated by Plainville High School faculty and staff members Paris Godbout, Deb Treado, Denise Jacobson, Pam Gervasio and Cindy Birdsall. Joey Chacho, a junior was nominated by high school faculty members Pam Gervasio, Michael Richters, Ken Chausse, Jen Jambard, and Cheryl Hathaway.
Woch, Chacho, and their families were honored on February 18 at a high school faculty meeting.
"The Students Rock awards are one of my favorite celebrations at PHS. These students are true representatives of our core values and beliefs symbolized by HEAT: Honesty, Effort, Achievement and Teamwork. Dominika and Joey are wonderful and deserving recipients. My thanks to Mrs. Colangelo for organizing this event and to all members of the faculty who contributed by voting and writing tributes on behalf of their nominees," said Plainville High School Principal, Steven LePage.
