Middle School Of Plainville To Host Anti-Bullying Program For Parents & Guardians

The Middle School of Plainville will host an Anti-Bullying Training Program for parents and guardians presented by the Anti-Defamation League on September 30, 2014, from 6:00 PM " 8:00 PM, with light refreshments served at 5:30 PM. The program is part of the Middle School's continuing efforts to maintain a positive climate and address the topic of bullying. Middle School sixth graders will also attend a daytime school assembly presented by the Anti-Defamation League, entitled "Step Up." The Step Up assembly will help sixth grade students establish common language and a common understanding about bullying behaviors. Seventh and eighth grade students in the MSP Ally Student Group will co-facilitate a post-assembly classroom activity with sixth grade teachers.

The two hour evening parent / guardian workshop is designed to help parents and guardians understand the issue of bullying and equip them with the tools needed to help their children respond effectively to bullying behaviors. Attendees will discuss and practice the skills required to communicate effectively with their children regarding the issue of bullying.

The program, which is supported by the Open Choice Academic, Student and Social Support grant, is open to all Middle School of Plainville parents and guardians. Childcare will be provided during the event. Please RSVP to Pat Osborne at osbornep@plainvilleschools.org or (860) 793-3250, extension 1104 by September 24, 2014, with childcare needs during the program.

"The Anti-Bullying Training Program for parents and guardians extends our work in this area from students, faculty and staff to parents and guardians," said Middle School of Plainville Dean of Students, Tom Laudadio.

"It is important for everyone in the community to work together to send a unified message against bullying. Having our school and parents work as one will help tremendously in this ongoing effort," noted Middle School of Plainville Principal, Matthew Guarino.
