Twelve Plainville High School robotics/ engineering students recently visited TRUMPF in Farmington, Connecticut, for National Manufacturing Day. The students were able to see some of the latest technology and equipment TRUMPF has on site. TRUMPF, a subsidiary of the TRUMPF Group in Germany, is currently the largest manufacturer of fabricating equipment and industrial lasers in the United States.
"The family run business was very gracious to host this visit for our students. It was a wonderful experience to learn about the manufacturing industry and walk down the production line to see the entire process," commented Plainville High School College and Career Readiness Center Coordinator, Susan Bradley.
The TRUMPF tour was coordinated with Plainville High school's new program "Shadowing for Success." In September, the High School opened the College and Career Readiness Center located in the school counseling suite. This Center's goal is to assist students with researching college and careers and helping them define their individual goals. In addition, the Center works with students to set up job shadowing opportunities.
"Shadowing for Success" is Plainville High School's job shadowing program. This program is designed to offer students in 11th and 12th grade the opportunity to learn about occupations in which they have expressed an interest, and grants students time in a business to observe an individual in the occupation. This one-on-one interaction allows students the opportunity to learn firsthand about the work activities, education needed, and the skills required performing the job. TRUMPF will also host Plainville High School students through the "Shadowing for Success" program.
Accompanying the high school students on their recent tour was Unified Arts instructors, Mark Chase and Jeff Wanner, Plainville High School Principal, Steven LePage, Assistant Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Maureen Brummett, Plainville Board of Education Chairperson, Andrea Saunders and the College and Career Readiness Center Coordinator, Sue Bradley.
