Plainville Community Schools Launches New District Logo

Plainville Community Schools recently unveiled a newly designed district logo as part of its updated strategic plan. The logo features red, white and "Plainville" blue student silhouettes representing elementary, middle and high school on the left side of an open book, and a placeholder for each of the five school's individual mascots on the right side of the book. An upper "Plainville Community Schools" banner reflects the school district's establishment in the year 1874, and a lower banner depicts the newly updated district mission. Additionally, a new masthead incorporates the student silhouettes and district mission.

The updated logo was created and designed by a group of Plainville High School students, under the direction of high school Communication Technology faculty member David Gaignard. The students were initially given guidelines in terms of elements to be included in the logo design, and then were charged with creating a number of logo options. The first round of design options was reviewed by a group of Board of Education members, staff and administrators, who provided additional feedback and suggestions that lead to the final logo design by the high school students. Gaignard and a high school student provided an overview of the logo design at the May 2013 Board of Education meeting.

"This was a great opportunity for my students to demonstrate creativity, innovation, collaboration and the use of technology," said Gaignard.

The school district is currently transitioning to the new logo in all of its communications including the website and print materials.

"The new logo captures the heart of our schools by using the silhouettes of students at each age level, the Board's mission statement, and for our middle and high schools, the Blue Devil. The best aspect of the logo is that it was conceptualized, created and produced by our own students," noted Superintendent of Schools, Jeffrey Kitching.
