Memorial Wall Of Honor Induction Ceremony To Be Held
The Plainville Board of Education and the Plainville Community Schools' Naming Committee will hold an induction ceremony on April 8, 2013 at Plainville High School for the Memorial Wall of Honor, according to Superintendent of Schools, Jeffrey Kitching.
The ceremony, honoring inductee in memoriam Joan Deegan, will be held at the Memorial Wall of Honor in the east corridor outside of the Plainville High School pool. The ceremony will take place at 6:00PM, with a reception following immediately after in the Plainville High School cafeteria.
Mrs. Deegan served as a member of the Plainville Board of Education for 18 years, from 1963-1981, serving as both Secretary and Board Chair. In addition, she dedicated herself to the Linden Street School PTO, the Plainville Association of Retarded Citizens, the Central Connecticut Mental Health Council, Wheeler Clinic, and was a member of the Tunxis Community College Board of Directors. Further, Mrs. Deegan was a member of the Democratic Town Committee, the Plainville Human Relations Council (Humanitarian of the Year), the Women's Club of Plainville (1983 Woman of the Year), Past Chair of the Plainville Chamber of Commerce, Campaign Chair for the United Way, member of the Plainville Economic Development Commission, and member of the Plainville Rotary Club.
The Memorial Wall of Honor is a permanent tribute to recognize local individuals for their service to the educational community. The memorial was established by the Plainville Community Schools' Naming Committee, which includes Chairperson Lorri Goldsmith, Stacey Norton, Steve Martino, Lynn Davis, Kathy Pugliese, Scott Saunders, Becky Tyrrell, and Ex-Officio members Andrea Saunders, Jeffrey Kitching, and Steven LePage.
The Memorial Wall of Honor Induction Ceremony event is open to the public.
