Plainville Community Schools kicked off its strategic planning process on September 18. A cross section of school district stakeholders including parents, community members, Board of Education members, faculty, staff and administrators were invited to participate in the district's strategic planning process. The group met for the first time on September 18. Jonathan Costa of Education Connection served as facilitator for the initial meeting, and will continue to do so as the group moves through the strategic planning process. The group will meet several times between September 2012 and January 2013.
During the initial meeting, Costa provided an overview of the strategic planning process and the evolution of educational reform, as a context for the group's work going forward. The outcome of the planning process will result in an updated school district strategic plan that will articulate strategic goals which will serve as key areas of developmental focus for the district over the next several years. Further, the plan will provide suggested indicators of success, strategies and action plans for continuously improving performance and building capacity in those areas of focus.
"This is truly a community based project and as such we tried to represent all aspects of Plainville within the committee. We are very excited to have this group of citizens and staff members working together to refine our mission and develop a plan for continuous improvement of our schools. Once approved, this document will help guide the Board of Education and administration over the next five years in our decisions regarding budgets, resources, curriculum, instruction, policy and programming for our students," said Superintendent of Schools, Jeffrey Kitching.
