A group representing the Plainville Board of Education traveled to Hartford to participate in the Connecticut Association of Boards of Education's (CABE) annual A Day on the Hill program held on March 14th. Plainville Board of Education Chair Andrea Saunders, Board Members Becky Tyrrell and Deborah Hardy, Superintendent of Schools Jeffrey Kitching, and Plainville High School students Sarah Wiszniak and Juan Santos attended the event organized to raise awareness of education issues in the State Legislature.
The program included remarks by Governor Dannel Malloy and leaders of the Connecticut General Assembly, issue briefings, an education funding rally, and visits with legislators.
The event provided the opportunity for students to gain first-hand experience in state government as it relates to public education. "It was interesting," said Wiszniak, a junior at Plainville High School. "I enjoyed learning about the process they go through to come up with a bill and the debate involved in the process."
"It was a lot of fun and I learned how legislators deal with educational topics," added Santos.
"It was a great opportunity to hear directly from our elected officials regarding educational issues facing Connecticut and Plainville specifically," noted Superintendent Kitching. "The Board members and I were very proud of the way Sarah and Juan represented Plainville High School."
