The search process for the new principal of Linden Street School is now complete, with Ms. Paula Eshoo selected for the role at a special meeting of the Plainville Board of Education held on September 27.
The elementary school principal search included a screening of 58 separate applications for the position, 25 of those candidates are already in administrative positions in other school districts. The candidate pool for the search was extremely high quality. After the thorough paper screening of the candidates, a large representative committee from the Linden Street School community interviewed 11 semifinalists. A group of finalists were asked to return to complete a performance task and to interview individually with the Superintendent. The staff at Linden was also able to meet each finalist during this stage of the process. Two candidates were then interviewed by the Board of Education and the Superintendent before Eshoo was selected.
Ms. Eshoo will come to Plainville after serving her entire 18-year career in the New Britain, Connecticut public school system. She began her career as a classroom teacher in grades four, five and six, before being appointed principal of Smith Elementary School in 2005. Eshoo received a bachelor's degree from the University of New Hampshire, a master's degree from Southern Connecticut State University, and a sixth year degree from Central Connecticut State University. Acting Superintendent of Schools for the New Britain school system described Paula as an educational leader with an incredible knowledge base and a passion for her students' success. As a principal she was able to create a positive school culture and climate as a result of her true understanding of teachers and the work they do.
"Paula has impressed the committee, Board of Education, and me throughout the process with her enthusiasm. She will be an outstanding fit for the leadership of Linden Street School and a tremendous addition to the Plainville Community Schools," said Superintendent of Schools, Jeff Kitching.
Ms. Eshoo's start date will be negotiated in the coming days.
