On September 21, 2011, the Frank T. Wheeler School community received a pleasant surprise when representatives from Bob's Discount Furniture stopped by to present Principal Catherine Frayler with a donation of $1,000 for the school.
According to Sharon Valley from the Bob's Discount Furniture organization, donation jars in the chain's stores in nine states are in place to accept donations for schools in the community on an ongoing basis. The money is collected and each month, a different state is selected for the month's contributions. September is Connecticut month, and as such, five schools were selected to receive a monetary donation, with Wheeler School being one of the lucky recipients. Photographs from the winning schools will be on display in a collage in the Bob's store cafes during the month.
"The generosity of Bob's Discount Furniture Stores is truly appreciated. When something wonderful happens, it just makes you smile. Students and teachers have been smiling all week. We will use the donation to support field trips for all students at Wheeler," said Wheeler School Principal, Catherine Frayler.
"We are so fortunate in Plainville to have connections with corporations like Bob's Furniture. They understand the importance of supporting education in the communities they serve, and we are truly appreciative of their effort," commented Superintendent of Schools, Jeff Kitching.
