Plainville Community Schools has received 150 high quality books for the elementary schools, thanks to a donation from "Link To Libraries," a non- profit organization based in East Longmeadow, Massachusetts, according to Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment, Dr. Linda Van Wagenen.
The Big Y organization is a funder of the Link To Libraries program. On the recommendation of the Big Y store in Plainville, the Link To Libraries organization selected Plainville Community Schools as recipient of the new books, which are a mix of fiction and nonfiction, and include novels and picture books. The donated books will be sorted and distributed to Linden, Toffolon, and Wheeler elementary schools.
According to their website, Link To Libraries is a non-profit organization founded in May, 2008, whose mission is to collect and distribute new and gently used books to elementary school libraries and non-profit organizations and to enhance the language and literacy skills of children of all cultural backgrounds. The organization has donated books to over 100 sites in Massachusetts and Connecticut, and has donated more than 25,000 books to area non-profits and public elementary schools since 2008.
"We are very grateful to Big Y and the Link To Libraries organization. These books will enhance our classroom libraries district wide and contribute to our new reading workshop model of instruction," said Dr. Van Wagenen.
