Maureen Schiffer Named Assistant Superintendent For Plainville Community Schools
Maureen Schiffer, Director of Special Education for Plainville Community Schools, has been named Assistant Superintendent for the Plainville school district. Schiffer replaces former Assistant Superintendent David Telesca, who left Plainville in July, 2010.
Schiffer's career as an educator spans more than two decades, serving in a number of certified and administrative special education positions in New York, Washington, California and Connecticut. In the Plainville school system, she has served as the instructional leader, supervisor, and director of district wide special education services. She is a member of a number of professional organizations including the Council for Exceptional Children, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, and the International Reading Association. Schiffer holds a bachelor of science degree from Saint Joseph College. In addition, she holds a master of science degree and a sixth year certificate from Central Connecticut State University, where she is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in educational leadership.
Schiffer was named the candidate of choice at a special Board of Education meeting held on November 22nd. It is anticipated that she will begin as Assistant Superintendent on December 1, 2010.
"Ms. Schiffer has proven her commitment to Plainville during her tenure. Her efforts have directly impacted the achievement of our most challenged students and the climate that exists in our schools. We look forward to her continued success in her new role," commented Plainville Board of Education Chair, Becky Tyrrell.
"Maureen has had an outstanding career in Plainville as Director of Special Education and Pupil Services. I am confident that she will continue to add value to the district as the Assistant Superintendent," said Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Kathleen Binkowski.
