The Plainville Town Council has approved the newly negotiated contract between the Education Association of Plainville and the Plainville Board of Education, on behalf of district teachers, for the period of July 1, 2010 through June 30, 2013, according to Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Kathleen Binkowski. The Plainville Board of Education adopted the mediated settlement on October 13, 2009.
The contract includes a hard salary freeze for year one; year two and three total teacher estimated costs will increase by approximately 2.5% per year. Also included in the agreement are a number of changes to the health insurance package, including the institution of a Health Savings Account (HSA) option, an increase in premium cost shares in years two and three of the contract, and increases in some co-pays.
According to Board of Education Chairperson, Becky Tyrrell, "The Board is pleased that the Town Council approved this contract. We are certain the Council recognizes that Plainville's teachers are active partners in finding solutions that will assist our community during these difficult financial times."
"This contract is exceptional and helps to control costs as we finalize the education budget for fiscal year 2011. The Board should be commended for negotiating a hard freeze for next year. We appreciate the teacher’s association and their understanding of the current fiscal climate," stated Dr. Binkowski, Superintendent of Schools.
