Community Holiday Concert To Include Student Performers

Middle and high school student performers from Plainville will take part in an upcoming holiday concert open to the community. The musical program will feature Vivaldi's Gloria with the Connecticut Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra Strings, and will include the Plainville High School Swing Unlimited group and Chamber Choir, the Middle School of Plainville's Chamber Choir, and the Gloria Dei Festival Choir, with members of the Plainville and Bristol Choral Societies.

The event will bring together over 90 voices with a professional 12 piece orchestra to perform a variety of holiday pieces under the direction of Middle School of Plainville Music Instructor Todd Helming and Plainville High School Music Instructor Jeffrey Blanchette. "This performance provides our students with the rare opportunity to perform a great piece of music with a professional orchestra. Vivaldiā€™s Gloria is a thrilling musical work," said Blanchette.

The orchestra will feature the strings of the Connecticut Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra. Each ensemble will perform a number of individual selections. The final number will feature all of the groups combined to perform the Gloria, as written by Antonio Vivaldi.
"This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to showcase their musical talents as part of this exciting community collaboration," said Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Kathleen Binkowski.

The concert, which will take place on Saturday, December 19, at 2:00 p.m., at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Bristol, Connecticut, is the second of the 2009-10 concert series. For more information about the concert series and for tickets, you may contact Concert Series Director Todd Helming at (860) 582-0629. Tickets for all concerts are $15 for adults, $5 for students, and children under the age of six are free.
