Grant Enables Expansion of Pre-School Program To Louis Toffolon Elementary School
The Plainville School Readiness Council is proud to announce the opening of the Plainville Day Care Pre-School Program located at Louis Toffolon Elementary School. Funded by a Connecticut School Readiness competitive grant, the new program is designed to expand the number of pre-school spaces available to Plainville children."This is another example of the kind of school and community partnerships that we look for. Plainville Community Schools provided the grant writing expertise to secure the funding necessary to provide a quality pre-school program for children who might not otherwise be able to attend. It's a win-win for the school system and the Plainville community," said Assistant Superintendent of Schools, David Telesca.
The Plainville School Readiness Council was established by Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Kathleen Binkowski and Plainville Town Manager, Robert Lee last spring, with the goal of expanding pre-school opportunities for young children (ages three and four) who may not have been able to afford pre-school in the past. The School Readiness Grant enables the addition of a new pre-school class with space for 15 children. Parents may enroll their children in a part-day (9:00 a.m.-11:30 a.m.), full-day (9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.), or extended day (7:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m.) program. Fees for the program are based upon family income, and children from low-income families will be given priority during the enrollment process.
The Plainville Day Care Pre-School Program at Toffolon is tentatively scheduled to open on November 2, 2009 and will be open 50 weeks per year, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with the exception of federal holidays. Extended before and after-care hours are available from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
To receive an application for enrollment, contact Plainville School Readiness Council Co-Chairs: Donna Cavallaro, Director of the Plainville Family Resource Network, 793-6304 or David Telesca, Assistant Superintendent of Schools, 793-3206. Applications are also available in each elementary school office or from Plainville Day Care, 747-3321.
"We are very excited to have been awarded this grant. It will provide Plainville's pre-schoolers with such a vital program that they would otherwise not be able to afford to attend," stated Plainville Assistant Town Manager, Shirley Osle.
