District's Business Manager Receives Rising Star Award
Plainville Community Schools Business Manager Richard E. Carmelich III is recipient of the Connecticut Association of School Building Officials (CASBO) 2009 Rising Star Award. According to CASBO, the award was created to acknowledge the value and contributions of outstanding newer school business officials. Nominees are evaluated based upon their contributions to their profession, and must meet four criteria including: how the nominee has assisted the school entity in maximizing its financial resources, implementation of innovative projects or practices, professional contributions and activities, and community service.
Prior to joining Plainville Community Schools as Business Manager in February, 2008, Carmelich was the Director of Finance for Oxford Public Schools. He has also held several positions in the government financial sector, including senior government finance analyst and government finance manager for the Connecticut Conference of Municipalities. Carmelich earned a bachelor of arts degree from Dickinson College and a master of public administration degree from the University of Georgia. In addition, he is certified as a State of Connecticut School Business Administrator.
"Rich has brought a fresh perspective to our budget process and the district operations. He is a rising star who continues to make a difference for our students," said Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Kathleen Binkowski.
"Mr. Carmelich is an important part of the operation of Plainville Community Schools. He is involved in every aspect of the function of our schools and we are pleased and proud that he has received this well deserved honor," noted Plainville Board of Education Chair, Becky Tyrrell.
Carmelich was honored at the May 11 Board of Education meeting. He will also be recognized at the annual CASBO Institute with a special presentation of the award and a complimentary Institute registration.
