District To Hold Community Forum on Alternative Funding
Plainville Community Schools will host a Community Forum on Alternative Funding Sources. The forum is open to all Plainville residents and will be held on Tuesday, May 12, at 7:30 PM at the Middle School of Plainville, 150 Northwest Drive.
The forum is being held to review the results of the efforts of the Alternative Funding Sources Subcommittee. The subcommittee was created to investigate potential funding sources for the school district. As part of the subcommittee research, Plainville parents were surveyed to gauge support for Pay to Participate and Activity Fee proposals.
The Community Forum will feature a short presentation followed by interactive conversation including information and results from the Alternative Funding Subcommittee's Pay to Participate and Activity Fee Proposal Surveys. In addition, there will be a discussion of alternative funding sources including: Education Foundations, the role of Advertising in school districts, Adopt a school / classroom programs, corporate sponsorships, web-based marketing, grants, and additional fund raising options.
"I'm very impressed by the commitment of the community members who have taken part in the Alternative Funding Committee. We have had very thoughtful discussions about how to fund programs during these difficult economic times, and have worked hard to solicit feedback from our parents during our committee work. I'm optimistic that we'll have a similar level of enthusiasm and input during our public forum, and am hopeful that we'll have a large turnout," said Assistant Superintendent of Schools, David Telesca.
"I am pleased that this committee has followed an educational process to gather information and provide direction on this issue. The Community Forum is the next step to open up the process and we hope many folks in the community will join us," said Plainville Board of Education Chair, Becky Tyrrell.
