Free and Reduced Lunch Program Information For Plainville Students
Plainville Community Schools reminds Plainville families that children who qualify under the United States Department of Agriculture guidelines, may receive school lunch meals free or at a reduced price of $.40. All meals served must meet nutrition standards established by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
In order to receive free or reduced priced school meals, parents / guardians must complete the family application for free and reduced price school meals and return it to their child's school. Eligibility is determined by federally established family income guidelines. Applications are available in each school office, and can be submitted at any time during the school year. Families that receive food stamps or Temporary Family Assistance are eligible for free or reduced benefits for their children. In some cases the Department of Social Services provides families with a letter that will automatically qualify children for free meals. This letter must be brought to school, and can be substituted for completion of the application.
The Plainville Community Schools Food Services Department utilizes a computerized lunch Point of Sale (POS) system. The system replaces the traditional cash registers and eliminates the need for lunch tickets and cash handling. Each student in the school district is entered into a computer database and is assigned a four digit personal identification number (PIN), which they retain for as long as they are in the school system. Free and reduced meal eligibility information is entered into the computer data base. All information entered into the database is kept confidential by a series of secure passwords and codes. A major feature of the POS system is that those students who are eligible for free and reduced price meals cannot be identified by other students at the register.
